Buckie Thistle boss Graeme Stewart apologises for “silly comment” made after Deveronvale draw

BUCKIE Thistle manager Graeme Stewart has apologised to Deveronvale for a “silly comment” made after last month’s 0-0 derby draw.
In the wake of the stalemate, a frustrated Stewart labelled Vale “poor” and said they were “not a good team”.
After defeating their rivals 6-1 on Saturday, Stewart apologised for those comments and admitted he let his post-match frustrations get the better of him.

“I was angry after the game and I shouldn’t have said that,” he said.
“It was a silly comment I made. I’m an experienced manager but we all make little mistakes at times.
“As soon as I left the ground I thought ‘maybe I shouldn’t have said that’.
“They are not a poor team and it was a ridiculous comment from me.
“I’m glad we won because I’m sure that comment would have come back and bit me on the backside. The guys pulled me out the hole a wee bit.
“I apologise to Deveronvale because it wasn’t a nice thing to say and I shouldn’t have said it.”
Buckie went a goal behind in the Fisherman’s Derby on Saturday, but fought back to record a convincing win ahead of what is a crunch week in the title race.
Goals from substitutes Lyall Keir (2) and Jack MacIver (2) were added to by a Jack Murray penalty and a strike from Max Barry to seal the 6-1 success.
The Jags host Strathspey Thistle tonight, then travel to Grantown-on-Spey to take on the league’s bottom side on Wednesday. Title rivals Brechin City are at Keith tomorrow night.
If both sides win out, they will be level on points going into Saturday - when Buckie will host Keith and Brechin travel to Brora.
